Fangs for the Memories!

The Spooky Truth About Your Canine Teeth

When you think of vampires, what's the first thing that comes to mind? Their mysterious capes? Their love of nighttime? Or those famous, pointy fangs?

Believe it or not, you already have your very own set of vampire-inspired teeth! They're called canine teeth, and while they won't turn you into Dracula, they have a pretty important job to do!

Meet Your Mouth's Little Fangs!

Canine teeth are the slightly pointed teeth located on either side of your front teeth. Most people have four of them: two on top and two on the bottom.

They're called canines because their shape resembles the fangs of dogs. And just like those famous vampire fangs, they're designed to be sharp and strong!

But don't worry, they're not meant for biting necks!

Their real superpower? Helping you bite and tear food!

While your front teeth (incisors) help cut into food and your back teeth (molars) help grind it down, your canines are especially helpful for gripping and tearing tougher foods.

Even Little Vampires Have Fangs!

Did you know that children develop canine teeth, too?

Baby canines typically make their appearance around 16–23 months of age, while permanent canines generally emerge between ages 9 and 12, depending on whether they're upper or lower teeth.

And here's another fang-tastic fact: Your canine teeth are sometimes called "eye teeth" because the upper canines sit just below your eyes!

Who knew something so small could have so many names?

Keeping Your Fangs Fang-tastic!

Whether you're a vampire, werewolf, witch, or just a kid who loves Halloween candy, every tooth deserves a little TLC!

Remember to brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, clean between your teeth each day, and visit your dentist regularly.

And while enjoying your Halloween treats, remember that even Dracula wouldn't want a cavity!

A Smile Worth Sinking Your Teeth Into!

This Halloween, take a moment to appreciate those four little fangs hiding in your smile. They might not give you supernatural powers, but they certainly make eating your favorite foods a whole lot easier!

From all of us at UPD Dental Associates, have a safe, spooky, and smile-filled Halloween!

And remember: You don't need to be a vampire to have a fang-tastic smile! 🎃🦷
